# Directory View

The Directory View lets you explore and manage the details of each Feature step by step. Use the left list to navigate the hierarchy, and edit all attributes of the selected item in the right detail panel.

### 1. Browsing the Item List

The list area on the left is split into columns by hierarchy level, making systematic exploration easy.

* Columns by level:
  * Column 1 (Requirement): Lists the Requirements — the top-level goals of the Project.
  * Column 2 (Feature / Specification): Lists the Features that belong to the Requirement selected in Column 1. Clicking a Feature expands the Specifications contained in that Feature below it so you can see the detailed structure.
* Collapse and expand columns: If you want more room for your work, click the arrow button on each column's divider to collapse the columns one by one starting from Column 2. Collapsed columns can be expanded back step by step by clicking the arrow again — handy when you want to focus on only the information you need.
* Item numbering: A sequence number is shown in front of each item so the planning order is always clear.

### 2. Editing and Managing Items

#### Left list

* Edit name: Double-click an item in the list to edit its name immediately.
* Move and reorder (drag & drop): Drag an item with the mouse to reorder it, or move it under a different parent item to reconfigure the connection.
* Add items: Click the \[+] button at the top of each column to add a new item right away.
* Favorites and comments: Just like in Tree View, you can star important items, and items with comments are marked with a speech bubble icon.

#### Right detail page

When you select an item, you can decide on all the planning details in the detail page that appears on the right.

* Set attributes: View and edit metadata such as item ID, status, and priority.
* Write description: Markdown is supported, so you can write detailed policy descriptions with rich formatting.
* Check connected Features: All child Features attached to the currently selected item are shown at the bottom.
* Ask AI to revise: Use the button at the top right to address logical gaps in the plan or polish the wording.
* Delete item: Use the \[trash icon] at the bottom right to delete the item. All connected child items are deleted with it, so use this carefully.

### 3. Navigating and Communicating

* Search items: Use the \[magnifier icon] at the top right to search keywords across the full list, and click a result to jump straight to its location.
* Favorites: Click the \[star button] in the left bar to view items marked as favorites, and jump directly to their locations.
* Jump to Tree View: Click the \[↗ Go to Tree View] button at the top of the detail page to switch the view so that the item you're working on is centered in the Tree View.
* Per-item comments: At the bottom of the detail page, post comments and replies with your teammates to polish the plan in real time. ([Learn more about the comment feature](/en/collaborate/comment.md))

**Note on missing items:** During AI generation, the connection relationships can occasionally be set incorrectly, leaving some items unlinked. In that case, find the missing items in the Directory View and connect them manually with drag and drop.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.manyfast.io/en/plan/features/directory-view.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
